2.  A square medieval castle on a square island was under siege.  All around the island, there was a 10 foot wide water moat.  But the conquerors only had two 9.5 foot bridges.  Nevertheless a wise man was able to figure out how to get over the water.  What do you think was his advice?

6.  A farmer is returning from market, where he bought a goat, a wolf and cabbage.  On the way home he must cross a river.  His boat is little, allowing him to take only one of the three things at a time.  He can't keep the goat and the cabbage together unattended (because the goat would eat it), nor the goat with the wolf unattended (because the goat would be eaten).  How shall the farmer get everything on the other side, without loosing any of what he bought?

Solutions

1.  Snow

2.  Place one bridge at the corner of the moat (making a triangle).  Place the other bridge so that one end touches the halfway point of the first bridge, and the other end touches the castle.

6.  Take the goat across to the other side.  Go back, and take the cabbage across to the other side, on the return trip bring the goat back to the first side.  Then bring the wolf across.  Go back, and take the goat across.
