Germ tube examinations are a thing of the past!

The old germ tube method of C. albicans identification requires several hours of incubation and tedious microscopy to produce a result. The AlbiQuick^tm eliminates the need for this and other lengthy procedures.

Rapid card format is easy to use

The reaction card contains two reaction wells; one for the PRO and one for the NAG substrate. The quick procedure calls for inoculation of both circles with a loop full of the yeast; wait five minutes, then apply a drop of reagent. The NAG circle is read by examining under a UV lamp; blue-white fluorescence indicates a positive. The PRO circle is read visually; a blue-purple color indicates a positive. C. albicans will produce a positive result in both the NAG and PRO circles.

Accuracy confirmed

A recent study, which compared the NAG and PRO methods to the traditional germ tube test, showed a sensitivity of 99% and a specificity of 99-100% (the germ tube test showed a sensitivity of 95% and a specificity of 99%; all isolates confirmed by API 20C).
