The NEW, FDA cleared, MRSA Latex Kit for PBP2/ detects Penicillin Binding Protein 2/ (PBP2/) in isolates of Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase-negative staphylococci. PBP2/ is a protein coded by the mecA gene and is present in the membranes of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase-negative staphylococci. The latex particles in this kit are coated with antibodies specific to the PBP2/ protein. This is a highly specific and sensitive test that has been successfully used around the world for several years.
